We are seeking a Cloud Operations Engineer to join our HeatWave Service team. In this role, you will contribute to the development, operation, and enhancement of one of Oracle's most innovative cloud services. Your work will have a direct impact on the service's reliability, scalability, and performance. You will leverage a variety of cutting-edge technologies while contributing to the operational excellence of HeatWave, helping us push the boundaries of cloud database services.
As part of the team, you will monitor and troubleshoot production issues, participate in upgrades and patches, and collaborate on service improvements. You will be responsible for ensuring the operational health of HeatWave services, automating processes to increase efficiency, and driving improvements in tools and service reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and Troubleshoot. Actively monitor and triage system alerts, emails, and phone calls to ensure quick resolution of service impacting events.
- Proactive Service Management. Perform proactive service checks to ensure smooth operations and meet service level agreements (SLAs).
- Incident Management. Coordinate critical incidents, track progress, and communicate effectively with stakeholders, ensuring fast resolution and a feedback loop to improve future responses.
- Automation & Process Improvement. Identify opportunities for automation and process enhancements to reduce operational overhead, mitigate recurring issues, and improve service scalability.
- Collaboration with Engineering. Work with the engineering team to implement improvements based on operational insights, providing feedback to enhance service dashboards, tooling, and user interfaces.
- Capacity Planning & Performance Tuning. Contribute to the planning and forecasting of service capacity, analyzing software performance, and fine-tuning systems to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Learning & Growth. Continuously upskill by learning about new features and capabilities of the service in alignment with the product roadmap.
- 24/7 Operations Rotation. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure continuous service availability, including weekends, holidays, and U.S. East timezone shifts.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Cloud Skills. Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or equivalent cloud services (IAM, Compute, Load Balancer, Object Storage, Health Monitor).
- Technical Expertise. Experience with Python programming, bash scripting, and Git.
- Database Knowledge. Basic understanding of MySQL and SQL query interfaces.
- System Administration. Basic Linux knowledge, system troubleshooting, and understanding of networking concepts.
- Operational Excellence. Ability to work in a fast-paced, Agile environment, writing runbooks, automating processes, and contributing to operational excellence.
- Agile Experience. Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban) for efficient project management and collaboration.
- Problem-Solving Skills. Strong analytical skills with a systematic approach to troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
- Team Collaboration. Proven experience working with cross-functional teams, including development, QA, and product management.
- Experience. 2+ years of experience delivering and operating large-scale distributed systems, with a background in cloud operations, site reliability, or software engineering.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BE) or Master’s degree (MS/MTech) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
