Job Description

We are seeking highly skilled Researchers – Cloud and AI Infrastructure to join Microsoft Research in Vancouver, British Columbia. In this role, you will focus on advancing the architecture and design of cloud infrastructures and AI-driven hardware solutions. You will work at the intersection of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and cutting-edge hardware to drive the next generation of innovations at Microsoft.

Responsibilities

  1. Innovate and Design. Investigate emerging hardware technologies and AI advancements, focusing on cloud and infrastructure architectures that are optimized for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  2. Optimize Systems. Design and optimize hardware components, systems, and architectures that support AI and cloud technologies, enhancing efficiency and performance across large-scale systems.
  3. Conduct Simulations and Prototypes. Perform simulations, tests, and validation of hardware designs to meet rigorous performance standards. Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept models to demonstrate new capabilities.
  4. Collaborate Across Teams. Work closely with software researchers, system designers, and engineers to understand requirements and design innovative hardware and AI infrastructure solutions.
  5. Industry Leadership. Stay at the forefront of hardware and AI research, identifying opportunities for hardware improvements, cost reductions, and new technology integrations. Publish your research and contribute to the broader academic and industry community.
  6. Cross-functional Collaboration. Partner with manufacturing vendors and production teams to bring your designs to life, ensuring smooth transition from research to real-world applications.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar) with 1+ years of related research experience, or equivalent industry experience.
  • PhD in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in publishing high-quality academic papers as a lead author or major contributor.
  • Experience in optimizing hardware architectures and designing systems that improve performance, reliability, and efficiency in cloud or AI contexts.
  • Strong experience with hardware simulation tools and design methodologies.

Compensation

  1. Research Sciences IC3. CAD $79,600 – CAD $153,000 per year
  2. Research Sciences IC4. CAD $104,000 – CAD $193,200 per year
