The FT&E AI Lab is seeking a Principal Scientist to join our AI Solutions Lab team. In this role, you will explore and push the boundaries of applied Gen AI research with a specific focus on edge applications. You will collaborate with diverse stakeholders to transition cutting-edge technologies into market-ready products.
Your responsibilities will encompass research and development of multimodal large vision models (LVMs), prototype creation, and the optimization of models for edge use cases. The role combines technical and leadership activities, including model research, fine-tuning, synthetic data collection, error analysis, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Innovation and Impact. Propose and execute innovations that significantly enhance HP products and services.
- Technology Leadership. Provide deep expertise in AI/ML, particularly in large vision models, and lead a dedicated research workstream, planning milestones and deliverables.
- Model Development. Develop and optimize Generative AI models (LVMs, LMMs) for targeted applications, ensuring alignment with business unit leaders from concept through deployment.
- Collaboration and Representation. Work with university partners on joint research efforts and represent the team in subject areas of expertise when interfacing with stakeholders.
- Mentorship and Guidance. Offer training and mentorship to junior engineers/scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
- Research and Communication. Prepare and present findings, publish in industry/academic conferences, and contribute to patents.
- Relationship Management. Build and maintain relationships with business partners to evaluate and drive AI innovations, providing domain-specific expertise for cross-organization projects.
Education & Experience
- Educational Background. Graduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Professional Experience. Typically 10+ years of experience in data analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, or a related field, with a proven track record of innovation (patents, publications, product contributions).
- Technology Leadership. Demonstrated experience in product contributions and leadership in technology development.
Preferred Certifications
- Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, and Generative AI application development (Large Vision and Multimodal models).
Knowledge & Skills
- Technical Skills. Expertise in algorithms, AI (Large Vision/Multimodal models), deep learning, machine learning, and natural language processing. Proficient in software engineering best practices, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure), and ML Ops practices.
- Cross-Organizational Skills. Strong communication, results orientation, learning agility, digital fluency, and customer-centricity.
