We are seeking an Accountant to join the Payments Controllership team at Google. In this role, you’ll assume ownership of the accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency of all controllership processes for Google Payments in the APAC region. You’ll be responsible for managing month-end and year-end reporting, implementing process improvements, and ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. Additionally, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, drive global initiatives for process automation, and play a key role in managing financial risk.
As part of this high-impact team, you’ll help Google scale its payment operations while maintaining the highest standards of financial controls and reporting. Key Responsibilities
- Controllership Ownership. Oversee the accuracy, timeliness, and effectiveness of all controllership processes for Google Payments in the APAC region. Ensure that all financial reporting and payments-related processes meet internal and external requirements.
- Process Improvement. Lead initiatives to automate and standardize external financial processes, aiming to eliminate inefficiencies and improve internal controls.
- Month-End and Year-End Reporting. Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements, and timely submission of financial reports within statutory deadlines.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders. Build strong working relationships with regional and functional partners. Work closely with internal teams, including Business Finance, Global Controllership, and external service providers to deliver scalable solutions and manage risks effectively.
- Financial Risk Management. Proactively identify potential areas of risk and develop and implement appropriate risk management solutions.
- Reporting & Presentations. Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual close presentations for management. Collaborate with global teams to ensure consistency across reporting, financial controls, and processes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the efficient execution of Google Payments processes and reporting. Participate in initiatives aimed at scaling operations and improving the quality of financial controls across the region.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years of experience in accounting practice or experience working with multinational companies in areas related to process improvements and financial controls.
- Proficiency in English, with strong communication skills to support client relationships in the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in an audit function, with knowledge of local financial, tax, and compliance requirements in India.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP.
- Proficiency in SQL and spreadsheet management (e.g., Excel).
- Familiarity with accounting principles including US GAAP and IFRS, and understanding of related international accounting standards.
- Ability to manage a diverse workload with a high degree of accuracy, timeliness, and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive operational initiatives and work in a fluid, cross-functional environment.
- Experience in process automation and financial controls within a large-scale organization.
