we can access local sql server datatabse through internet

Question

I have to access local sqlserver database through internet.
There is two application. One Application is Desktop Application. Which is run by client on local net work on different location and second application is web application which is on by web side. I have to access client side database through web applicatioon.
Is it Possible ?
if Yes, then How ?
