taking a signal in through infared port?

for an application im writing, i have to take an signal in the infared port on my pc, using a regular tv remote control. the signal will be used to control a simple mp3 player that i have cerated in c#. can ahyone tell me how to open the infared port and start it listening for my remote control signals??
