Surface vs. Metro Style Apps

Question

I remember Microsoft was building its own API for surface and even announced Surface SDK 2.0. But now with new Tablet, if Windows 8 is running, it doesn't make sense for me to build apps in Surface SDK. I would just build Metro Style apps. 

Am I missing something?
