Solution to overcome URL length limit in Sharepoint

Is there a way to overcome the predefined url limit for sharepoint which is set to 250 chars max.

I am trying to enter an external link in a links library which is crossing that limit. Is there a workaround to this issue?

Also, i do not want to use "Google url shortener" for security purposes.

Any help would be appreciated..
