smpt configuration, im lost

Question

alright, so theres an smtp configuration component inside the web application tool. problem is i cant figure out how to make it work. i dont know what to put inside the server name. what i want to do is set up my own smtp server (is it possible?) inside my windows XP laptop. i tried setting up the virtual smtp server from IIS but i cant relate how i can make it work with the asp.net web application.

any help?
