SharePoint List Issue

Question

I Create one SharePoint Custom List using visual studio and deploy it, and add some record via browser side... but when i retract this solution old list data is deleted... I dont know why this is happen.. Help me...

If you are provisioning your list using feature, and when you are retracting the solution and again deploying it, then in background, SharePoint deletes the lists and re-create it. That's why you are loosing your data added through the web browser. If there are any fixed data available then you can provision that data while creating list only using XML shown below. ListInstance Title = "List1" OnQuickLaunch = "TRUE" TemplateType = "100" Url = "Lists/List1" Description = "My List Instance" > Data > Rows > Row > Field Name = "Title" > Test1 Field > Row > Row > Field Name = "Title" > Test2 Field > Row > Row > Field Name = "Title" > Test2 Field > Row > Rows > Data > ListInstance > Let me know if you still need more explanation.

Also maintain IDs in the ListInstance xml

Or else, the simplest approach is, while creating a list in solution, just check it first whether list is exist or not, if exists then do not create it again. This will solve your problem.

When I add both list template and list instance to list feature.. I get that error... Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': Cannot complete this action

Try by adding the ListInstance to your module

If you retract the solution, list should not get deleted. Is your list getting empty on solution retraction?
