Printing W2 forms with C#
Jan 6 2005 2:26 PM
I found myself in a pickle re: W2 forms - which I'm responsible for at our company. I overlooked some payroll information change that happened this year, and thus printed incorrect info on our entire box of W2 forms. Rather than wait for another box of forms, I remembered I saw an article how to print the forms by Mike Gold, 8/7/2001. I was all set to use Mike's basic info to quickly reprint the W2's, but thought I had better contact the good folks at the IRS, just to make sure it was OK. Whew, good thing I did. Although you can print your own forms, you CANNOT simply scan the IRS W2 forms and use them. If you print your own forms, you are required to go through an approval process that may take up to 30 days. IRS Publication 1141 has the detailed requirements and directions how to complete the process. The "Red Ink" requirements are pretty stringent. There is an option to print the "Red Ink" pages in black ink (laser printer) - but, again, the requirements are quite detailed - and must be approved prior to use. None of this is really complicated, just time consuming to get set up and approved. I plan on getting this ready for next year. For now, I'm waiting on another box of forms and hope I get it right this time. John B
