.output Filename command in SQLite

Question

I have prepared one empty table and I have executed select statement on some other table. Then I have used .output FILENAME command by replacing FILENAME with an empty table. But when I execute select statement on empty table,it don't show the contents of non empty table. Can anybody explain how can I execute this command. Thanks.
