open documents from server

if i click a button i want to open a file that's on the server, example if i click on the button word has to start and the file has to be opened in it. can anyone help?

i found a sort of resolution http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/Code/2002/Mar/WordFromDotNet.asp but its not really what i wanted, it also has to open pdf's other files and pictures. I don't want to write a new action for each documente type.
