Open a window from Menu Control .

I have got a application which should open a new window if i click a menu item in the Menu Control. If i use javascript window.open method ,parent page gets refreshed. how to avoid this or is there any other way i can achieve my result.

i have used target="_blank". which is not client side script. Pls help me out .
