That makes more sense. Okay, that dialog always comes up. The key is what's in it. Sometime's there are no errors at all. Each item has an icon next to it. If it's a checkmark, the operation was successful. For some operations, you'll get a warning, which has a yellow triangle next to the item. In the latter cases where you get a warning, it simply expects you to fix them manually. Select the new dataadapter and go to the properties window. Check the updatecommand, selectcommand and deletecommand. The ones that had problems will be unconfigured. Just create new ones and configure them.

I connected to the database via odbc and the mysql driver. I know I am connected because when I click on the database in the server explorer it will display the populated table.Dragging the database to form odbcConnection goes ok however when I drag the patient table to the form to construct the DataAdapter I get the error? thanks again steve

How did you connect to the database before you drag the connection object onto the form? Lets clarify. Are you dragging the OdbcConnection object from the toolbox to the form for the first time when this error occurs? Did the error occur before or after you connected? The error indicates that it's configuring a dataadater, but it doesn't create a dataadapter when you drop a connection object onto the form. Are you doing something with a dataadapter?
