Mysql Max Connection error on Continuous update

We have application titely coupled with Mysql. We are oftenly triggering request(every 13sec) from javascript to update the session as like "KeepAlive" which is used to intimate others like page availability for edits. Due to this Db get maxconnection error based on the users access. Could you help me out from this situation.
