Messagebox to show failure or success message

Hi,

I am new on here and would like some help with dealing with what should be a simple task. I have a small form which is simply a data entry form for a single field (the second being a database autonumber). After running the SQL script I want either a messagebox to show that an entry already exists in the database or that the insert has been successful.

Below is my C# code.

Please can someone help as to how to achieve what I need! The above code obviously gives a successful message regardless of the real result.

there are two possible solutions

(1)
   you should get the record first by firing select statement,
   if record is returned then show "Record Exists" message. This code is in C# file
   if record is not returned, then do your work and show "Saved Successfully"

(2)
   create an SP, which should return either 0 or 1 based on record exists or not
   get the value of that SP in C# code and accordingly show message.

Thanks Amit,

The code executes fine and inserts the data as required, but it is the messages which I cannot get right.

In the SQL I have the "IF NOT EXISTS..." query prior to the actual INSERT. What I want is for a message to appear "Record Exists" if the "IF NOT EXISTS..." bit of the statement is true, otherwise it should give me a "Saved Successfully" message.
