Looking for a good database application tutorial

I am an intermediate user of C# and I want to make a database application for my job as a paramedic that will track our pharmaceutical usage. I am told that using the database wizards are not good practice for building databases. Where can I find a good tutorial on databases that is not only explanatory, but shows the professional way to build a database application ? I want to use C#
