Is learning programming a good choice?

I like programming and I intend to work in It industry, especially in software deloping. But I heard a lot of opinions from people around me who already work in this job. They said, become programmer is very difficult, you can spend your life in front of a computer and difficult to manage time between work and personal life, etc. Can you please give me an advice or understanding about this career? so I can understand more about this career and I and could solidify my choice.
