Import excel data into sharePoint

Question

I have created a custom list on Sharepoint and now I need to take information from various cells in my Excel sheet and upload the data into the list on Sharepoint. I do not want to post the entire Excel file to Sharepoint.

I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any experience with this? or even know if it is possible?
