how to write sql stored procedure to increment a number in a text box for every entry

Hello There!,

First of all i have a web page with a text box field called "Serial number" .All i need is to write a sql stored procedure to increment this number for each and every entry.

That is , for first entry it should be populated with one. for second time entry it should show two (after saving the first entry).
