How to stop page refresh while uploading image

Hi friends, We are using asp.net file upload control and image control. In page load event we are catching file path and we are assigning that path to image for preview. While doing this procedure when we r choose file to upload the page get refreshing. To avoid this I used update panel but it's not working. Pls suggest me how to avoid page refresh. Thank you.
