How to start a career as a software tester without degree?

Question

My friend is having the certification of software testing and some self learining of testing. Are there any ways he can start a career as a software tester with this certification?

 

He is trying to find some work on crowd testing but not getting any positive results. he is willing to work as a volunteer for few time without getting paid too. He has basic knowledge of methodologies ,SQL and websites

 

What technologiy skills are needed to become an entry level software tester?

 

Which crowd testing sites are accepting such entry level testers? or what he is missing on his part ?
