how to retrive image or pdf from database

Hi

 

i am uploading multiple files and storing it into database. i will randomly upload file such as jPG, PDF, JPG or PDF ,JPG, PDF. how to retrive image or pdf from database, if it is GIF then Image type, if it is PDF thn Pdf type,
