for (int rowIndex = gridView.Rows.Count - 2; rowIndex >= 0; rowIndex--)

{

GridViewRow row = gridView.Rows[rowIndex];

GridViewRow previousRow = gridView.Rows[rowIndex + 1];

for (int i = 0; i < row.Cells.Count; i++)

//for (int i = 0; i < cnt; i++)

{

string rowcell = row.Cells[i].Text;

string previousRowCell = previousRow.Cells[i].Text;

if (row.Cells[i].Text == previousRow.Cells[i].Text && i==11)

{

// int j = i + 1;

row.Cells[i].RowSpan = previousRow.Cells[i].RowSpan < 2 ? 2 : previousRow.Cells[i].RowSpan + 1;

previousRow.Cells[i].Visible = false;

}

try like this

for (int rowIndex = GridView1.Rows.Count - 2; rowIndex >= 0; rowIndex += -1)
{
GridViewRow gviewRow = GridView1.Rows(rowIndex);
GridViewRow gviewPreviousRow = GridView1.Rows(rowIndex + 1);
for (int cellCount = 11; cellCount <= 12; cellCount++)
{
if (gviewRow.Cells(cellCount).Text == gviewPreviousRow.Cells(cellCount).Text) {
if (gviewPreviousRow.Cells(cellCount).RowSpan < 2) {
gviewRow.Cells(cellCount).RowSpan = 2;
} else {
gviewRow.Cells(cellCount).RowSpan = gviewPreviousRow.Cells(cellCount).RowSpan + 1;
}
gviewPreviousRow.Cells(cellCount).Visible = false;
}
}
}

ok, try this

for (int rowIndex = gridView.Rows.Count - 2; rowIndex >= 0; rowIndex--)
{
GridViewRow row = gridView.Rows[rowIndex];
GridViewRow previousRow = gridView.Rows[rowIndex + 1];

for (int i = 0; i < row.Cells.Count; i++)
{
string rowcell = row.Cells[i].Text;
string previousRowCell = previousRow.Cells[i].Text;
if (row.Cells[i].Text == previousRow.Cells[i].Text && i==11)
{
row.Cells[i].RowSpan = previousRow.Cells[i].RowSpan < 2 ? 2 : previousRow.Cells[i].RowSpan + 1;
previousRow.Cells[i].Visible = false;
row.Cells[12].RowSpan = previousRow.Cells[12].RowSpan < 2 ? 2 : previousRow.Cells[12].RowSpan + 1;
previousRow.Cells[12].Visible = false;
}
}
