how to iterate through controls

I confirmed this. It is add that you cannot just cast the ctrl to a CheckBox and look at its Checked property. But if you set a CheckBox variable to ctrl it works fine. Anyone want to open another thread to explain this?

but now i can't access the Checked property because ctrl is a Control and not CheckBox .. i tried (CheckBox) ctrl.Checked but didn't work either:/

I don't think you can iterate through JUST the checkboxes. You need to iterate through ALL of the controls. Don't try to cast a Control to a CheckBox. That won't work. For each control you can check the Control's Type using: (typeof(System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox).IsInstanceOfType(ctrl)) to see if you are looking at CheckBox control. Example: foreach (Control ctrl in this.Controls){ Console.WriteLine("{0} {1}", ctrl.GetType().ToString(), (typeof(System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox).IsInstanceOfType(ctrl)).ToString()); } Put this at the end of your frmMain and your Debug window will show you all of your controls, what type they are, and if they are CheckBoxes.

i meant how to do that with c# when i foreach (CheckBox c in this.Controls) i get : An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in tmp.exe Additional information: Specified cast is not valid. i dunno how should i cast the controls collection to a checkboxes collection

To iterate through checkboxes on a form, Dim chk as Checkbox for each chk in form.controls 'place your code here to process for each checkbox the form contains. next As long as the static class has the reference to the form, it should work. Sorry, can't help you on your last question.
