Help! Can't get Web Services to display in browser - tries to open in Visual Studio

Hi I had the same problem. I tried the following. It worked for me. run aspnet_regiis.exe from c:\winnt\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\ using -u option. This will uninstall aspnet framework. again run aspnet_regiis -i from the same path. this will re-install the framework and registers the version with ISAPI dll. restart IIS (In my case, I restarted my machine ). then open any asmx file. this should solve your problem

Try using Cassini and see if anything is different. They are correct, you should point your web reference wizard to the WSDL document for the webservice in question. The WSDL is just a different URL, like this one: http://myserver/path/myservice.asmx?wsdl When you hit the ASMX page directly, it should provide a link to the SERVICE DESCRIPTION. When you click on it, it shows you that WSDL. Note the URL. That is the one that you plug into the wizard.

I am having the same problem. I try to add a web reference and type in the url for the asmx file and it never finds the web service. It just opens up in .Net and shows one line of code. I have also looked everywhere and people say you have to type in the location of the wsdl file, but .Net did not create one for me. I have followed the TaskManagement tutorial that is included with .Net and I do everything they say and it doesnt work for me, but it works for them in their video. At first I also thought it might have something to do with IIS, but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Does Visual Studio come up in Debug mode? If so, it probably opened it to trap a runtime exception. Usually it prompts to open the JIT debugger, but I've seen instances where it doesn't.

Do ASP.NET pages work properly? Looks like IIS has corrupted file type mappings.
