Gridview update taking a long time

Question

hi guys
I know u can help me.
I have a grid view & on its row updating event i am updating a record & inserting  a new record in a different table & again binding the grid which is taking a long time.& sometimes i get an error as the server request timed out.
plz help guys to make it faster.
