Frameworks confusion

Sep 21 2007 11:53 AM

I am a newb for the most part. Ive done a little work with C#.Net on a 2.0 framework but I really dont understand the basics here. Ive been trying to do some ADO examples from my books to learn about the database connectivity. I can open a book and reason through the logic of the code but Im missing something. For example, I have a sitepoint book on creating a website with C# and dotnet on a 1.0 framework. I have dotnet 2.0 installed on my machine and I get some errors using their code, mostly syntax related. I know the code is right because Im copying whats in the books but Im wondering if its because the differences in frameworks. I was fine with 1.0 and 2.0 being slighly different but now there's 3.0 and beta testing for 3.5 so Im just wondering when its going to end and what I should be trying to focus on here. I feel like the train left the station and I never even packed my bags heh. Its a bit frustrating for me to keep up since Im not a full time MS developer. Im sure many of you have experience with this and I just want to learn the basics so I can apply that to future projects but I really dont know where to start. So I was hoping to get some answers on if there are any differences in the database connection stuff going from 1.0 to 2.0. And if you were in my shoes are there any good books that would get me started on the right path of learning C# and dotnet in a fairly quick study? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
