Find the information in the password box of another app

I'm not sure this is possible, I know there are examples for windows XP, but none for windows 7. 
I have a program (coreFTPlite) and need access to the stored password.  There were programs for XP that revealed these, simply by removing the asterisk. Since I couldn't find a program to do this with, I thought I'd try to make my own. After a few frustrating hours, I decided to ask if this is even possible anymore with windows 7.  How would I go about it?
