Custom roles and membership[Authorization concept]

Question

Hi,

I do not want to use the login controls asp.net provides.. I want to create my custom user controls for login,registration etc.. How to authorize a person ? How is it done after the user has registered.. I do not know more about roles and how to set them.. read some stuff from site googled and checked this site also but did not understand
