creating a transparent mesh in direct X & c#

i created a room, in 3D studio max, one side of which is transparent. i exported using panea Xporter,and brought it into my directX app. when i view it, the transparent part is solid grey. i know i have to set some render states, but im not sure what. im using c# and directX9
