Comments are not working

The comments are not working; at least not for posting comments to news items. When I press the Enter key the comment does not get posted. I get a new line instead, so I know that the problem is not my keyboard. Also, the period is not working here. If I type the period (dot) then I get a space. I know it is not my keyboard here either since when I go the HTML Text view I can enter a period.
