Check for updates: how to download and install a new version

Sir Good Morning,

I want know how to check update for new version our .exe when its start to run on my computer system in c#, and whats logic behind it .

please guide me.

Hi

Is it necessary to validate before installing files.If not than you can do the same using code when the application starts.

Hi

So if you don't want to get answer on skype so i am explaining you little bit here. For this you have to store the bit in the database that are you installing the application and you have to place the check on program.cs like

if(isInstalling==true)
{
Validate();
}
else
{
Open Login Form();
}

Yes- it is necessary to validate before installing files.
1-Although I have make a class in program.cs file to validate macaddress when installer run .
Validation process execute successfully but after that my login form open ,while it should not be open.
2-Can I create a separate valiation class to validate mac-address ?.
if i crate a validation class then how to call on .msi run.
plz tell me whats is the right logic or any other process to get this type of validation.

Sir,

I have create msi installer and its run successfully.but i want to use "custom action" temple to validate application.(I want when start run .msi before it check system mac address and compare our predefine macaddress which is store in our database ,if macaddress valid then perform "Next" action in .msi dialogbox).
I have try to above functionality but not get exact result.

As in above dialog figure-if I click "Register Now" then it validate system "mac address"
if mac address match(internal process) then perform "Next" action.

So plz tell me where i am making mistake to achive this.

Hi,

The basic idea to check versioning and download exe is to place your
- Installation or exe file
- text or xml file which will hold the installation or exe file version to the webserver.

Lets assume ->
Old Version : 1.0
Latest version : 1.1

To implement this you have to code for an automation service which can check for the latest version from url using webclient, if you find a latest version then download that file to a particular location and run that file through code and the rest of the things setup will do by own means replacement of files.

OR

The other method is to use any custom service like http://autoupdater.codeplex.com/
