changing names in dsign but ....

i have changed the neme of menu items in the design window - but the methods in code have not renamed - do i have to manually go through all the methods and change the names. 

Confusingly all the mens still work - but there should be an erros as the properties name and the code name dont match - but there is no error.  Why?
