Calender spreadsheet

Question

I need some pointers as to how to create a calender in the form of a spreadsheet. For the moment, I have an Excel spread sheet with the columns as days (for a whole year) and the rows for listing material. It works fine but is very cumbersome and so I would like to create a program with a lot more functionality providing date periods, printing options, reports providing available material etc and a lot more besides.

My problem is, I have no idea how to create/draw a spreadsheet type form or data grid filled with a date range. I am new to programming and have just finished Murach's C# 2005. Perhaps I am aiming a bit high but I have to start somewhere.

Pointers to put on the right track would be appreciated.
