Best & Latest Approach to develop web application c#

Question

I am 8 years old experienced web developer on .net technology working on small organization when i started working early on myproject

manager used to say me that what ever logic you are applying on web page you do it on database side means make a procedure

apply all logic there and do task and i am following same criteria today also , but today when i sea most of the sorce code

or web application they use linq and do all there calulative task there in middle layer / business layer then they save data

to their database so i want to know what is best approach in todays standard to develop web application and what mnc follow

"i means to says do every thing in database in a procedure or do every thing in business logic and just entry data to your db"
