accessing sql server data using vb.net for a pocket pc application?

hello everyone.. i really hope sumbody could help me on this..pls!! im currently doing my final year project and its due in 3 weeks! im doing a pocket pc application using vb.net and sql server.. the applictaion basically needs to connect to a databse to retrieve some data.. first of all, i chose the smart device applictaion to develop this..is this right? and is vb.net and sql server suitable for this.. secondly when i open a connection using codes like dim sqlconn as new sqlconnection...... the application seems to hang..why is this.. what should i do in the vb.net to connect to this sql server database.. do i write the codes or just simply go to project>connect databse..n its all done? im really a beginner in vbnet.. can anyone show me the codes for opening a connection to database and retrieving data from a table there?? please anyone,pls help me....
