Wireless stopped working on Windows 8.1

A couple of weeks ago, I got a new Lenovo Idea Centre running Windows 8. Later on Oct 26, I upgraded it to Windows 8.1. See my blog here Upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 for Free.

Everything was working fine until yesterday when my Internet stopped working by itself. I looked at available Wireless but it was showing none.

I thought maybe my router had some issues or got reset, I started my computer. However, my WiFi was working just fine on other laptops and devices. So, I was sure it wasn't the Wireless problem.

I called Lenovo support and he admitted that it is a known problem on Windows 8.1 and Lenovo is working with Microsoft to resolve this problem.

The workaround is:
Open Device Manager – WIN + W

Search for Device Manager and Click on it

On Device Manager window, Expand Network Adapters

Find your Wireless adapter. The Wireless adapter on my computer is Realtek Wireless LAB 802.11

Right Click on it and select “Disable”. It will warn you about disabling it.

Once disabled, right-click on it again and Enable it by selecting “Enable”.

Right away, I noticed my Wireless was available and connected.
