Happy Engineers Day!
When one of my friends wished me that this morning, I got a question in my mind that "Who is an Engineer?" I thought for some time to find the answer, and here are my thoughts.
Who is an Engineer?
An Engineer is a person who is empathic, has technical knowledge/skills, believes in teamwork & collaboration, and goes beyond his/her job.
Empathy
Finding a solution to a problem indicates concern for others, which involves looking around and understanding the problem and being able to find a solution.
Technical Knowledge & Skill
Technical skills are the abilities and knowledge needed to perform information technology, mathematical, or scientific tasks. Some of the skills required include knowledge of programming languages, design programs, mechanical equipment, or tools.
Team Work/ Collaboration
There are a few success stories that we listen to and get inspired by. Who were the real engineers? Their stories speak not only to problem solving, not only about technical skill, but also to being able to convince others about the problem solution in a strategic way to complete a shared goal.
Job
If people have done something just like a job, masterpieces would not have been seen. They did it with a thought towards something beyond just a job.
But I feel that engineering is a concept that helps in making things easier; i.e. to eliminate all the manual effort or reduce the complexity in doing some task.
