Introduction
In this blog, I will discuss Azure FarmBeats and how Azure FarmBeats helps to rapidly build data-driven agriculture solutions.
Microsoft announced a new Azure cloud service called Azure FarmBeats during the Microsoft ignite event. Azure FarmBeats is a new Azure offering which is nothing but about business to business offering available for agriculture in the Azure marketplace.
Azure FarmBeats collects data using different providers such as sensor, drone, and satellite and based on that data it uses artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) to build the solutions. That solution can tell you soil moisture, recommendations on how many sensors to use, where to place them, etc.
Azure FarmBeats is currently in preview.

In the above diagram, it explains how Azure FarmBeats is working.
Key Features Of Azure FarmBeats:
- Create farms by using a map or a JSON file.
- Track farm conditions by using various sensors.
- Gets farm health using different satellite image.
- Get soil moisture map based on satellite and sensor data.
- Get recommendations on how many sensors to use and where to place.
- Build digital agriculture solution by providing health advisories.
Below are the examples of Azure FarmBeats that indicate how farm data are populated.

Key components of Azure FarmBeats:
- Datahub
Datahub is an API platform that provides various agriculture datasets providers which take data from different sensors, satellite, drone, weather, and farm equipment, etc.
- Accelerator
An accelerator is a solution built on top of the datahub. Also, it will provide different types of charts and maps as output.
