Today at 10am PST Apple began unveiling the new edition of the IPad. The IPad2's new launch is taking place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, CA. Apple kicked off the event by playing the Beatles followed by the surprise attendance of Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs has been on medical leave since January due to pancreatic cancer as well as a liver transplant. His appearance on stage was met with a standing ovation. Jobs explained to the audience that "We've been working on this project for a while, and I just didn't want to miss this.'
A few hours before, Random house's books appeared on iBooks. This brings the number of publishers that are now a part of the IBook Store to over 2500. As Jobs puts it 'We just crossed 200 million accounts across all the stores. iTunes, app store, iBook store. Apple recently paid out over $2b to developers for selling apps on app store. The emphasis here is on the volume of apps and the money being made." 15 million iPads sold in 2010 within 9 months. More than any other tablet PC ever sold.
As I write this blog, all eyes are on Jobs waiting with anticipation for the new model to be unveiled any second.
