Moodle is a Learning Management System (LMS) written in PHP. In my previous article we discussed how to install Moodle on IIS server. Now we are going to learn how to upgrade a Moodle version from lower to higher.
Let us discuss the steps.
Step 1: Login to your Moodle site by using your admin user name and password. After Login go to Site Administration, then Maintenance Mode (in moodle 1.9 version) or upgraded versio which means Administration, Server, then Maintenance Mode.
Figure 1: Enable Maintenance Mode
Once you have enabled the maintenance mode in the Moodle site only the Administrator can log in to the site. The other users like authenticated, course creators and etc..cannot access the Moodle site. At the login page of the site maintenance mode enabled message was shown.

Step 2: In our second step select the drive like C: / D: where the Moodle folder is located; rename that lower version folder and then download the upgraded version in https://moodle.org/ download link. After downloading the newer version of Moodle copy and paste the folder where your older version folder is located.
Select the config.php file of renamed older version folder and copy that php file and paste this file into your new version folder.
Step 3: Now we run the Moodle by using your domain address or your local IP Address in your browser; run the following steps to be processed.
