Usage Of Multiplication Function In Power Automate

Introduction

In Power Automate, at times we need to perform multiplication arithmetic operations so that we can get desired results easily. As an example, let us see how to calculate the number of minutes in a Day with the help of the multiplication function.

Step 1

Login to the required Power Apps environment using URL make.powerapps.com by providing username and password and click on Flows on the left-hand side as shown in the below figure.

Step 2

After step 1, Click on New Flow and select instant cloud flow and provide the trigger as Manually trigger a flow and click on Create as shown in the below figure.

Step 3

After step 2, add a parallel branch and in one part name flow as Multiplication Function and take initialize variableaction and provide step. Name it  Set Variable for number of Hours 24 and then provide the inputs in one side

Name: Hours Per Day

Type: Integer

Value: 24

as shown in the below figure.

Step 4

After step 3, on another side of the parallel branch take initialize variableaction and provide step name it as Set Variable for minutes for an hour 60 and then provide the inputs as in one side

Name: Minutes Per Hour

Type: Integer

Value: 60

as shown in the below figure.

Step 5

After step 4, now take compose action and name it as Total Number of Minutes in a Day and provide the following inputs as below with div function and it expects the following syntax

mul(multiplicand_1: number, multiplicand_2: number)

and provide

mul(variables('Hours Per Day'),variables('Minutes Per Hour'))

and click on update/ok as shown in the below figure.

Step 6

After step 5, now test and run flow and observe the result as shown in the below figure.

Note

  1. Make sure to save and run the flow whenever you try expressions.
  2. MS documentation is found here

Conclusion

In this way, we can easily perform arithmetic operations like Multiplication to achieve simple requirements in Power Automate flow.
