Recently, Microsoft made some major announcements including open sourcing .NET, making Visual Studio to work with open source platforms and much more. One of the announcements was also about renaming its .NET Framework. The previous version of .NET was .NET 4.5 and I still see some .NET 4.6 mentions in the documents and online.
But the new version of .NET will be called .NET 2015. .NET 2015 includes many sub versions of the framework and one of them being .NET 4.5.2.
Universal Windows apps performance
.NET Native increases performance of the applications. Test Windows apps are showing performance imrovements of up to 60%.
Web and Services
There are significant changes in how web applications and cloud services are developed, managed and distributed. Features include totally modular, faster development cycle, seamless transition from on-premises to cloud, more choices of editors and tools, open source with contributions, faster development and so on.
Open Source .NET
The .NET Compiler platform, codenamed “Roslyn”, is a completely open source platform.
